Dr. Micah M. Likness is a native of Watertown, SD. His senior year in high school he was selected into the prestigious Alumni Student Scholars Program which conditionally accepted him to the University of South Dakota School of Medicine. He graduated with Honors from the University of South Dakota with degrees in Biology (2003) and Spanish (2004). Dr. Likness received his Medical Doctorate from Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota in 2008. He spent his final two years of medical school at the Yankton Model Program.

Dr. Likness then completed a five year residency in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

He was appointed Chief Resident for 2012-2013, and was awarded the 2013 Erie County Medical Society Resident of the Year Award out of the 800 residents at the University of Buffalo, and inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society (Arnold P. Gold Foundation), for “Demonstrated excellence in clinical care, leadership, compassion and dedication to service.”

His professional involvement includes the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and the American Medical Association. He is the co-author of a number of medical publications and has presented scientific papers at national meetings, including his most recent research “Computed Tomography Scans as an Objective Measure of Disease Severity in Chronic Rhinosinusitis,” at the 2013 AAOHNS Annual Meeting in Vancouver, BC. This research has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr. Likness practices the full spectrum of pediatric and adult medicine and surgery of the Ear, Nose, Throat Head and Neck. His interests include diagnosis and treatment of disease in the fields of Sinus and Rhinology, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Pediatrics, Laryngology, Voice and Swallowing disorders, Thyroid and Parathyroid disease, Sleep and Snoring disorders, Facial trauma, Allergy, Otology and Neurotology, and Head and Neck surgery.

Dr. Likness has a particular clinical and research interest in Nasal and Sinus disorders including Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Image-Guided Sinus Surgery and the use of balloon sinuplasty techniques to re-establish natural drainage patterns of the sinus systems. During his residency training he acquired additional training in advanced Functional and Endoscopic sinonasal surgery with extension to the skullbase, laryngeal microsurgery and vocal fold augmentation, and soft tissue and craniomaxillofacial trauma reconstruction.

Dr. Likness lives in Yankton, SD with his wife, Tabitha, their son, Grady and their daughter Blair.  When not working, he enjoys spending time with family and friends on the Missouri River and Glacial Lakes, hunting, fishing, running and poorly playing golf.
